What initially appeared to be a respiratory infection took a frightening turn for 13-year-old Patient . Weakness spread from his legs to his arms, and evaluation at CritiCare Asia Hospital, Malad, revealed Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS). As paralysis progressed and his breathing weakened, he required ventilator support.
For his parents, the days that followed were filled with fear and uncertainty. When the initial IVIG course brought no early improvement, the treating team initiated plasma exchange and further individualised care.
Then came the first encouraging signs. Gradually, movement returned and his breathing improved. Patient was weaned off the ventilator and discharged home with a tracheostomy tube.
Ten days later, he returned for another milestone: removal of the tube. This time, He went home breathing on his own—a moment of immense relief for his family and care team.
